Research and Practice Seminar “Comparative Media Studies”. On October 15-16, 2015, Saint Petersburg State University was visited by worldwide known scientists from the field of media research.

UntitledSaint Petersburg State University hosted the International Research and Practice Seminar “Comparative Media Studies” on October 15-16, 2015. During the second day of the seminar a panel discussion “Modern challenges in comparative perspective: information context of the global politics" took place, which was attended by the world's leading experts in the journalism studies: the representatives of the University of California, Malmö University and Saint Petersburg State University.

The discussion was held by the following persons:

•    Professor Daniel C. Hallin, teaches at the University of California, San Diego (USA);

•    Professor Bo Petersson, head of the department of studies of global politics at Malmö University (Sweden);

•    Professor Svetlana Bodrunova, head of the Department of Media Design and Information Technologies at Saint Petersburg State University;

•    Professor Dmitry Gavra, head of the Department of PR in Business at Saint Petersburg State University.

The scientists discussed the pressing issues related to the existing international conflicts. Approaches to the definitions of such complex concepts as "global political process" and "global communication process" were discussed within the context of theoretical issues. The experts expressed their views on the media system respond to political challenges in the USA, as well as in Russia, Sweden and Europe in general.

For reference: Prof. Hallin is one of the leading researchers in the concept of the comparative approach to the journalism and media studies. "Comparing Media Systems: Three Models of Media and Politics”, the book written by him and co-authored by Paolo Mancini, has been translated into nine languages, has received three awards for his contribution to the development of science and won Outstanding Book awards of the International Communication and National Communication Associations and Goldsmith Book Award of the Shorenstein Center on Press and Politics at Harvard. At the present time prof. Hallin studies mediatization processes of health care system.
