The media map of the world and digital democracy: a new academic programme at St Petersburg University trains international journalists

International journalists have always been considered the big league of the profession. Their work connects people throughout the world. Covering the life of a region or a state requires a journalist to know the history, culture and specific features of public life.

The new master’s programme ‘International Journalism and World Politics’ is designed to train multi-skilled journalists, taking into account the global agenda of contemporary international relations. The programme focuses on the study of foreign policy communication, media diplomacy, and the ability to create media products in the field of foreign media analytics.

The training is based on creative thinking and the realisation of creative potential, with due regard for the requirements of the media and information markets. The structure of the curriculum is based on foreign and Russian experience in this area of journalism. Current agendas are studied: the media map of the world, foreign policy propaganda, and digital democracy.

The programme responds to the demands of a competitive environment. Graduates are well-versed in international information strategies and practices. This enables young professionals to apply their knowledge in various fields of social and humanitarian activities. Graduates of the programme can work in: media communications, education and culture; and government agencies, public and commercial organisations.

You can apply online for the master’s programmes by attaching the documents in the Applicant’s Personal Account starting from 15 March 2023. Admission to studies is based on the results of the admission tests in the form of a competitive selection of documents (portfolios). Enrolment in the programme is possible on both a government-funded and fee-paying basis The duration of study is two years.
