Hong Kong scientific media community representatives will visit Saint Petersburg

UntitledOn Dec 19th, Institute “School of Journalism and Mass Communications” will host a meeting with the delegation from Hong Kong Baptist University, China

Among experts that will join the meeting will be:

Mr. Cheung Siu Wai, Programme Director, Master of Arts in International Journalism Studies

Prof. Chen Ling

The meeting will be held on the 19th of December, Monday, at 10:30 AM, room 603. Language of the meeting is English.

Brief bios:

Prof. Huang Yu received his Ph.D. from the University of Westminster, U.K in 1993. Since 1994, he has been teaching in the School of Communication, Hong Kong Baptist University. His current research interests include Mass media in Hong Kong and mainland China, Media representation/construction, Social relation and media changes, Political economy of media/communication studies, News/media and social development, Media and Chinese nationalism.

Mr. Cheung Siu Wai has taught journalism and communication in universities both in Hong Kong and in mainland China. He is a specialist in Newsgathering, Journalistic writing and Political communication, in addition to Cultural criticism, Public relations and International affairs. He started teaching graduate courses of the MA in Communication Program at Hong Kong Baptist University in 2009. Mr. Cheung started his journalistic career in the 1980s. He was U.S. Bureau Chief of the newspaper Ta Kung Pao for 13 years and was twice elected the President of New York Foreign Press Association. He was assistant managing editor before leaving the newspaper in 2009. Today, he appears frequently on local TV programs and on satellite TV channels as guest commentator. Mr. Cheung was a graduate of the Institute of International Relations in Beijing, majoring in English language. He later earned his master’s degree in International Affairs from the New School University in New York.

Prof. Chen Ling, Ph.D. 1991, joined Hong Kong Baptist University in 1997, from the University of Oklahoma, USA. Over the years, Prof. Chen has served as Dept. Head, Acting Dean of the School and Research Graduate Student Coordinator of the School of Communication. The Research and teaching Areas of Prof. Chen include Organizational communication, Intercultural communication, Psychology of communication, Communication and argumentation, Interpersonal communication competence, Language and social interaction, and Chinese communication. Prof. Chen has published widely in academic journal and has held leadership positions in professional associations.
