The area of expertise of the department is: history, theory and practice of international journalism; and contemporary issues and trends of global journalism. Great attention is paid to studying and comparing the media systems of different countries, with the focus on Western, central and Eastern Europe, USA, China and the countries of the Near East.

Among the latest collective works of the department is the book titled ‘Modern Foreign Journalism: Gloсalization In The Practice Of The Western And European Mass Media (edited by A.S. Puyu, 2010)’. The book on media and politics in western democracies is being prepared for publication in 2013.
