Alexander Marchenko studied journalism at the Volgograd State University from 2007 to 2011. During this time, he worked part-time as a journalist for a newspaper of the Volgograd region.

In September 2011, he went to St Petersburg to study for a MA (magister degree) in journalism in St Petersburg State University. In 2013 he started PhD program in journalism in St Petersburg State University and in 2016 he completed it. During these years, he worked part-time for the Students' Scientific Society, Council of Young Researchers of St Petersburg State University.

At the end of 2014, he got the first permanent position in St Petersburg State University as a manager of the Scientific Affairs Department. In 2019 he defended his PhD theses and received his PhD degree. In January 2021 he changed his job and joined to teachers and scientists of St Petersburg State University as a senior lecturer. Now he works at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In 2018 and 2020 he was voted for Prize of Committee for Science and Higher School of the Government of St Peterburg.

PhD in Philological Sciences. PhD thesis – Conflict of Worldviews in Contemporary Russian Journalism (2019, St Petersburg State University).
