<description><![CDATA[St. Petersburg State University invites you to take part in the jubilee 50th international conference "Media in the Modern World. St. Petersburg Readings" on <b>21-22 April 2011</b>. The conference is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the School of Journalism and aims to become one of the most outstanding scientific events of St. Petersburg State University, which is a leading university in Russia. 
<br />Conference "Mass Media in the Modern World. St. Petersburg Readings" provides ample opportunities for joint international, inter-university and multidisciplinary research, exchanging experience in studying journalism and mass communications, encouraging international academic cohesion and promoting Russian scientists abroad. 
<br />We offer the following <b>forms of working sessions</b> to your attention: 
<br /><i>A Panel Discussion</i> - a topical meeting for professionals, including discussions of significant publications, persons from the world of science, media, etc. The panel is headed by two panellists who pick up three or four speakers from the researchers they know as well as initiative applicants and manage the open discussion involving the audience. The discussion of the issues raised is the essential part of the work. 
<br /> Experts Round Table is a "live" discussion on a relevant topic involving four or five professionals and a moderator. Others present have an opportunity to speak out on the issues as well. 
<br />The proposed structure allows to combine academic tradition with a flexible search algorithm and identify the stages of academic growth.]]></description>

<br />The number of panels and round tables is subject to change. 
<br />Applications should contain the Applicant’s full name, university affiliation, including department and year of study, paper title, Academic Supervisor’s name and title.

<br />Deadline for applications is 1st February 2010.

<title>British Consul-General Speaks at English Club</title>

<description><![CDATA[<b>20 April 2009 at 5.10 pm in room 603.</b> Her Majesty Consul-General Mr William Elliott will speak at the English Club on <i><b>Global Economic Crises</b></i>.
<br />
<br />William Elliott has been British Consul-General in St Petersburg since November 2006. 
<br />He was born in 1968 and grew up in the UK, Sierra Leone and the USA. He studied English Literature at the University of York, and after graduation he taught at universities in Poland and Georgia. William Elliott joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1994. He has been posted to Warsaw (1996-1999), Kabul (2001-2002) and Tallinn (2002-2006). His work for the FCO has covered a variety of issues - EU enlargement, security policy, Trade and Investment and resource management.
<br />In his spare time he enjoys literature (particularly English and Russian), history (UK, Europe and South Asia), cooking and cricket.
